The Embu Farmers Field Day, themed “Elevating Sustainable Livelihoods Through Dairy Farming,” marked a major milestone in advancing sustainable agriculture and farmer empowerment in Embu County.

Held at St. Marks Kigari Teachers Training College, the event drew over 3,000 farmers from 19 cooperatives across the region. Organized through a strong partnership between Daima Sacco Society Ltd, AVSI Kenya, E4Impact Entrepreneurship Center Kenya, Farm Africa, and the Kenya Dairy Board, the field day showcased modern dairy farming techniques, value chain innovations, and sustainable practices like converting cow waste into biogas.

Kenya Dairy Board Chairman Genesio Mugo, the event’s chief guest, reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to strengthening a farmer-centered dairy sector that promotes both food security and economic empowerment.

“This event is more than just a farmers’ meeting. It reflects our shared commitment to transforming the dairy industry by equipping farmers with the right knowledge, tools, and market linkages,” Mugo said.

He highlighted capacity-building, value addition, and accessible financing as the keys to unlocking the full potential of Kenya’s dairy sector, and urged farmers to adopt quality-driven and tech-savvy practices to remain competitive locally and globally.

In a show of support, the Kenya Dairy Board and its partners distributed milk cans and quality assurance kits to cooperatives, youth, and persons with disabilities involved in the dairy value chain—reinforcing the goal of inclusive growth.

Leaders from Daima Sacco and partner organizations praised the farmers’ enthusiasm and pledged continued technical, financial, and educational support.

The Embu Farmers Field Day demonstrated the power of collaboration in driving agricultural transformation. It underscored the need for sustained partnerships to build a resilient, inclusive, and prosperous dairy sector across Kenya.

With such proactive engagement at the grassroots, the future of Kenya’s dairy industry looks stronger than ever.
