PS Ummi Bashir Rallies Wajir Behind Education as Key to Equality and Growth

Wajir, June 17, 2025 — Education is the game-changer for Northern Kenya. That was the message from Principal Secretary Ummi Bashir as she led Education Day celebrations at Diff Mixed Secondary School in Wajir County.
“Education is the greatest equalizer,” Bashir declared, urging stakeholders to unite in securing quality learning for all children, especially in marginalized regions.
The event brought together top government officials, including Chief of Staff Felix Koskei, Governor Ahmed Abdullahi Jiir, and several MPs and Principal Secretaries, who stood in solidarity with the push to close education gaps in Northern Kenya.
PS Bashir emphasized that education is central to the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) and called for urgent investment in schools, infrastructure, and learning tools to break the cycle of poverty.
She also encouraged students to stay focused, describing them as the “torchbearers of Kenya’s transformation.”
With growing national momentum behind inclusive development, PS Bashir’s message was clear: the future of Wajir—and Kenya—starts in the classroom.
