SOWETO, South Africa, June 21, 2025 — Kenya has won the 2025 Africa Catchball Championship, emerging victorious in a thrilling tournament that brought together top teams from across the continent. The Kenyan side triumphed after an undefeated run, taking home the coveted trophy from South Africa — and with it, continental pride.

Held at Pimville Stadium in Soweto, Gauteng, the tournament featured teams from Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Nigeria, and host nation South Africa, highlighting the growing popularity of catchball — a team sport rooted in unity, inclusion, and women’s empowerment.

The Kenyan team arrived in South Africa on June 14 and returned home on June 21 to a hero’s welcome, after a series of impressive performances that captivated local fans and inspired cross-cultural camaraderie.

A Warm Welcome and a Festive Spirit

The team was welcomed by Papa Douglas Shilubane, President of Catchball South Africa, who praised Kenya’s participation:

“We are honoured to host you here. Your presence is a powerful gesture of continental unity. Feel safe, enjoy your stay, and help us spread this beautiful game across South Africa,” said Shilubane.

Local communities turned out in large numbers, with school children and fans from across Soweto filling the stands to watch and learn. The atmosphere was electric — filled with cultural exchanges, language sharing, and friendships forged across borders.

Kenya advanced with a commanding performance in the semifinals and ultimately secured first place, followed by South Africa in second and Uganda in third.
