Kenya Crowned Champions of 2025 Africa Catchball Cup in South Africa

Soweto, South Africa – June 21, 2025 — Kenya has been crowned the 2025 Africa Catchball Cup champions, after an impressive, undefeated run at the tournament held at Pimville Stadium in Soweto, Gauteng.
The championship, which brought together teams from Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, and South Africa, was a celebration of sport, women’s empowerment, and continental unity. Kenya’s national team, which arrived in South Africa on June 14, returned home on June 21 with the coveted title—outplaying all opponents and showcasing unmatched teamwork and skill.
The team was welcomed by Papa Douglas Shilubane, President of Catchball South Africa, who praised their participation. “Your presence is a boost to our vision of spreading Catchball across South Africa. We’re honored to host you,” he said.
Over two days, Kenya dominated the group stages, winning all matches, including against top South African teams like JSM Limpopo, Gauteng Stars, and Mpumalanga. In the semifinals, Kenya beat the host nation, while Uganda secured third place by defeating Gauteng Stars.
Roselyne Molakeng, CEO of Catchball South Africa, applauded the Kenyan team’s performance. “We’re proud to have hosted such talent. Kenya has raised the bar.”
Fans—including school children and community members—flocked to the stadium, many discovering Catchball for the first time. The event sparked vibrant cultural exchange and strengthened friendships across borders.
Africa Catchball Association President Shadrack Okello thanked the Kenyan Ministry of Sports for its support and promised even greater engagement next year. “This is only the beginning. Catchball is uniting women through sport—and that power is just starting to show.”
