Kaimosi Friends National Polytechnic Certified as Qualification Awarding Body in Historic KNQA Milestone

Vihiga County, June 23, 2025 — In a major boost to Kenya’s technical education sector, Kaimosi Friends National Polytechnic has been officially certified as a Qualification Awarding Body (QAB) by the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA).
The landmark certification empowers the institution to independently develop, assess, and issue qualifications under the Kenya National Qualifications Framework (KNQF) — a move expected to enhance credibility, flexibility, and industry relevance in vocational training.
The certificate was handed over during a celebratory event at the institution, led by KNQA Deputy Director James Tegeret, representing CEO Dr. Alice Kande, whose leadership was widely praised for driving reforms in Kenya’s qualifications landscape.
“This milestone reflects KNQA’s commitment to quality and relevance in skills development,” Tegeret said. “Kaimosi has met the rigorous standards required to join the elite list of certified QABs.”
Principal Secretary Dr. Esther Muoria of the State Department for TVET lauded the polytechnic for launching a modularized curriculum that promotes learner flexibility, employability, and alignment with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
The event drew leaders from 31 TVET institutions across Western Kenya, alongside Ministry of Education officials and TVET stakeholders.
With this recognition, Kaimosi Friends National Polytechnic solidifies its position as a regional hub for competency-based education, as KNQA continues to steer Kenya toward a more inclusive, skills-driven economy.
