In a bold move aimed at reshaping Kenya’s political narrative, the New Generation Aspirants (NGA) party on Friday 27, June 2025 convened a high-powered Leadership and Governance Conference at UfungaMano House, Nairobi.

The event, which drew dozens of young political aspirants and civic-minded youth, aimed to raise awareness on leadership gaps and galvanize a new wave of youthful participation in governance.

The conference was headlined by renowned Pan-African scholar and constitutional lawyer Prof. PLO Lumumba, who delivered a passionate keynote urging the youth to take up the mantle of leadership, challenging the entrenched political class that, he said, has overstayed its welcome.

“The time is now for young Kenyans to rise and lead,” said Prof. Lumumba. “We must demonstrate that politics can be based on ideas not ethnicity, not bribery. Our country is hungry for a generational shift.” “It pains me deeply to see individuals who have been in leadership for over two decades still claim to be the solution. The youth must step forward guided by wisdom, not age.”

Lumumba’s remarks resonated strongly with attendees, many of whom voiced frustrations over Kenya’s systemic leadership failures, youth unemployment, and widespread impunity. He dismissed the notion that money should be a barrier to leadership, encouraging youth to unite and leverage their numbers to challenge the status quo.

Dr. Ben Gigi, NGA’s National Treasurer, reinforced the call for youth empowerment, highlighting the recent tragic deaths of protesters during anti-tax demonstrations on June 25.

“The blood of young people should not water the tree of impunity,” Dr. Gigi said. “We are here not just to mourn, but to organize. This platform is preparing young people for leadership and governance—because real change cannot wait.”

He criticized the government for “arming the youth with rungus instead of jobs,” noting that over a million graduates enter the job market annually with little to no opportunities.

John Kamau, National Chairperson of NGA, emphasized that the movement is about much more than protest, it is about building a structured political alternative that will lead Kenya into a future defined by justice, equality, and opportunity.

“We are not just angry, we are organized,” Kamau declared. “We are strategizing for Camp 2027, where young aspirants will run for office and claim the leadership this country needs.”

Kamau said the movement is grounded in the idea of the Kenyan Dream, where “every Kenyan can dream and live that dream,” in a society that values justice over tribalism, competence over connections, and ethics over empty rhetoric.

The NGA also used the occasion to express solidarity with families of those injured or killed during recent protests, calling for speedy investigations and accountability for state violence.

The NGA platform continues to grow as a rallying point for politically active youth seeking an alternative to the current political establishment. With a unifying vision of economic reform, social transformation, and justice for all, the party has positioned itself as a rising force ahead of the 2027 general elections.
