EPRA Chair Hon. Ali Haji Adan Elected EREA Chair, Vows to Champion Regional Energy Unity

Mombasa, Kenya – June 26, 2025 — Hon. Ali Haji Adan, Chair of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), has been elected Chairperson of the Energy Regulators Association of East Africa (EREA) during the body’s 17th Annual General Assembly in Mombasa.
Hon. Adan, a former Mandera South MP, pledged to drive deeper regional cooperation, policy harmonization, and support for just energy transitions across the East African Community (EAC). The Assembly was held under the theme: “Promoting the EAC Energy Union through Enhancing Efficient Energy Regulation and Just Energy Transition.”
In his address, Adan highlighted Kenya’s clean energy leadership, citing that over 80% of the country’s power is from renewable sources, including wind, geothermal, solar, and hydro. He reaffirmed commitment to regulatory innovation and cross-border energy trade.
He also welcomed Somalia’s National Electricity Authority (NEA) as a new EREA member, calling it a milestone for inclusivity.
“This is more than a role—it’s a regional responsibility,” said Adan. “Together, we must build a unified energy future that is accessible, affordable, and sustainable for all.”
The next EREA General Assembly will be hosted in Kampala, Uganda, with ERA Uganda taking over as Deputy Chair.
