Mvurya hands over Kasarani stadium to Local Organisation Committee ahead of CHAN

The Ministry of Sports is contend with the quality of work done at the iconic Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani ahead of the CHAN tournament scheduled for August.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya on Monday received the symbolic keys for the stadium, before officially handing it over the Local Organizing ( LOC) chairman Nicholas Musonye.

The CS confirmed that the Confederation of African Football ( CAF) is satisfied with the preparations,with Kasarani and Nyayo stadiums set to host Group A games.

The CS conducted the last official check and survey of the stadium which will remain closed until the first opener of the tournament pitting hosts Kenya and DRC Congo.

The stadium will also host the final match of the tournament.

” As a ministry we are now done and we are officially handing over to LOC who will do the final logistics together with CAF,” the CS said.

He further clarified that CAF had send a statement on Nyayo Stadium for the government to erect a perimeter wall which will be complete in two days.

All the training grounds namely Kirigiti in Kiambu,Police Sacco in South C,Ulinza Sports Complex in Langata are undergoing final touches to meet the required standards.

Fans have been urged to protect the upgraded facilities by shunning violence and vandalisim.

CAF has already released the match schedule for the matches with Kenya set to face stiff competition in Group A.

Only players from the local leagues are allowed to participate with the opener scheduled for August 2 and the finals on August 30, 2025.

It will be hosted across four East African venues in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

Kenya is in Group A alongside Angola, DR Congo, and Morocco.

Kenya will then play Angola at the same venue four days later before meeting Morocco on August 10.

Matches in Group A will be shared between Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani and Nyayo Stadium
