PS Roseline Njogu Leads Swift Evacuation of Kenyans from Iran Amid Rising Regional Tensions

Nairobi, June 26, 2025 — Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs, Roseline Njogu, has confirmed the safe return of the first group of Kenyans evacuated from Iran, underscoring the government’s commitment to protecting citizens abroad amid escalating instability in the region.
The evacuees landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, where they were received by officials from the State Department for Diaspora Affairs. The evacuation follows rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, prompting urgent action by Kenya’s diplomatic and crisis response teams.
“We are grateful for the tireless efforts of our multi-agency team in Nairobi and the exceptional dedication of our embassy staff in Tehran and Ankara,” said PS Njogu. “Evacuations are ongoing, and we are working around the clock to ensure no Kenyan is left behind.”
The operation reflects a growing emphasis on proactive diaspora engagement, with the department under Njogu’s leadership strengthening emergency response systems for Kenyans overseas.
She also credited the broader diplomatic support from the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, under Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, for enabling the mission’s success.
This evacuation marks a critical moment for Kenya’s foreign policy readiness, showcasing the effectiveness of coordinated response and the State Department’s role as both protector and advocate for Kenyans in the diaspora.
As tensions persist, the department remains on high alert, preparing for additional evacuations and reaffirming its mandate: protecting Kenyans—wherever they are.
