Kajiado, Kenya – 25 June 2025
Kajiado North parliamentary hopeful and prominent city lawyer Shadrack Wambui has dismissed claims that he orchestrated the Gen Z protest in Ongata Rongai that turned chaotic on 25 June 2025.
Speaking to the press outside the Ongata Rongai Police Station, where he had been summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Wambui said he had complied with all legal procedures before the protest and denied any involvement in the destruction that occurred.
“Our demonstration was peaceful. In fact, we were escorted by police from Maasai Lodge to National Bank. Unfortunately, our team was attacked by unknown goons along the way,” said Wambui.
Calls for Accountability from Sitting MP
Wambui shifted the spotlight to current Kajiado North MP Onesmus Ngogoyo, accusing him of making inflammatory posts on social media ahead of the demonstration.
“The area MP should be the one summoned. His Facebook posts were laced with incitement. Demonstrations are a constitutional right, and no one has the authority to stop such a lawful act,” Wambui added.
Screenshots circulating online allegedly show Ngogoyo warning against any form of protests in the constituency, a move Wambui’s legal team says may have fueled tension in the area.
Support from Legal Heavyweights
Wambui appeared at the police station accompanied by a team of more than 30 lawyers, including notable legal figures such as Sam Nyaberi and Cliff Ombeta.
Danstan Omari, a high-profile lawyer and Wambui’s supporter, praised the Ongata Rongai police for handling the matter professionally and called on voters to elect Wambui in 2027.
“Shadrack Wambui is the kind of leader Kajiado North deserves—transparent, accountable, and committed to all citizens regardless of gender, tribe, or religion,” said Omari.
Deadly Anniversary Protest Under Scrutiny
The protest, which coincided with the first anniversary of the Gen Z movement, turned deadly, resulting in at least two fatalities and several injuries from gunfire. The demonstration began peacefully but later escalated, with property and businesses vandalized in parts of Ongata Rongai.
Wambui is under investigation in connection with the unrest but maintains that the violence was incited by external actors and not affiliated with the peaceful protest his team organized.
