The National Construction Authority (NCA) has launched its 3rd Annual Contractors Conference with a strong message: Kenya’s construction sector must embrace innovation, digital integration, and compliance with the new National Building Code 2024.

Held under the theme “Innovatively integrating the National Building Code 2024 into the current technological construction and infrastructure landscape,” the three-day forum brings together engineers, contractors, architects, regulators, and artisans for knowledge exchange and training.

Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome, who opened the event, praised the NCA for modernizing building practices. “The government supports sustainable construction that protects both the economy and citizens,” she said.

Eng. Maurice Akech, NCA’s Executive Director, emphasized the need for the new Building Code to be understood not just as a regulatory document but as a “transformative tool” aligned with real-world construction technologies.

NCA Board Chair Mercy Okiro added that the Authority is committed to grassroots inclusion. “We’re rolling out simplified guidelines and mobile training clinics to reach every fundi in every county.”

The Code’s rollout includes digital permitting, contractor grading reforms, and a focus on green building standards, all tailored to meet the demands of a rapidly urbanizing nation.

Participants hailed the NCA’s leadership in making construction safer, smarter, and more accountable. As Kenya scales up national infrastructure projects, the message is clear: quality and innovation must go hand in hand.
