Businessman Questioned Over Eviction of Billionaire Chris Obure Despite Ksh 981M Payment

A businessman was on Monday put on the spot at the Environment and Land Court (ELC), Milimani, to explain why he evicted prominent aviation and real estate tycoon Chris Obure after receiving Ksh 981 million in rent and purchase payments for the Senteu Plaza building.
Appearing before Justice Charles Gitonga Mbogo, Mr. Pankaj Chhaganlal Shah, the Managing Director of Ajeetkumar C. Shah & Others Company, admitted to receiving the Ksh 981 million from SBS Dunhill Group Limited — a company linked to Obure — under the terms of a lease agreement running from September 2017 to September 2023.
However, he told the court that SBS Dunhill was evicted from the disputed property on May 16, 2025, pursuant to orders issued under Business Premises and Rent Tribunal (BPRT) Case No. BPRT/E178/2025.
The court heard that the said BPRT orders had already been stayed, following a protracted legal battle mounted by Obure.
The matter is part of an ongoing legal dispute between the two parties, raising serious questions over the legality of the eviction and the enforcement of tribunal orders that had already been suspended.
The court will issue further directions as the matter progresses.
