KDCWG’s Evans Kibet Leads Strong Call for Government Accountability Amid Civil Unrest

Nairobi, July 10, 2025 — The Kenya Devolution Civil Society Organizations Working Group (KDCWG), led by National Convener Evans Kibet, has issued a bold statement urging the Government of Kenya to uphold the Constitution, end police brutality, and protect citizens’ rights amid ongoing protests.
Kibet condemned the violent crackdown on peaceful demonstrators, including abductions, arbitrary arrests, and the invasion of the Kenya Human Rights Commission offices. He called the government’s response unconstitutional and a direct attack on Kenya’s democratic fabric.
“Freedom of assembly and expression are not privileges—they are constitutional guarantees,” said Kibet. “Suppressing public voices only deepens the divide between citizens and the state.”
He urged security agencies to act professionally and respect human rights, while encouraging protestors to remain peaceful and focused. Kibet also opposed the proposed Public Order (Amendment) Bill 2025, warning it would erode public trust and stifle civic space.
Calling for genuine national dialogue and long-term reforms, Kibet praised Kenyan youth for their courage and commitment to justice. “They are not enemies of the state—they are the conscience of the nation.”
Backed by 17 civil society groups, KDCWG vowed to remain vigilant in defending democracy and civic freedoms.
“We will not retreat. We will speak truth to power,” Kibet said. “Our future demands it.”
