People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua has declared her intention to run for president in the upcoming 2027 General Election, firmly ruling out the possibility of playing a supporting role.

Speaking to members of the Kenyan diaspora in Seattle, Washington, during a joint forum with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Karua said her political ambitions are clear and uncompromising.

“I’m done with the running mate business. That era ended in 2022. This time, I’m going for nothing less than the presidency,” she said.

“I’m working day and night to be that candidate because I believe Kenya deserves ethical, principled, and visionary leadership.”

Karua’s remarks appear to set the stage for a highly competitive presidential race in 2027.

Already section of leaders among them Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Fred Matiang’i have declared interest for the seat.
