Kenya’s iconic Maasai Mara National Reserve has officially been entered into the World Book of Records (UK) as the site of the “World’s Greatest Annual Terrestrial Wildlife Migration”, marking a historic milestone for the country’s tourism and conservation efforts.
The announcement was made under the leadership of Tourism Ambassador 001, President William Ruto, whose commitment to environmental stewardship and tourism promotion has earned praise from stakeholders across the globe.
“This is a moment of immense national pride,” read a statement celebrating the global recognition. “The Great Migration—featuring over 1.5 million wildebeests, zebras, and antelopes crossing the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem—is not only a breathtaking spectacle but also a powerful symbol of nature’s resilience and balance.”
The accolade cements Kenya’s position as a global leader in eco-tourism and affirms the Maasai Mara’s place among the world’s natural wonders.
Gratitude has been extended to President Ruto for his visionary leadership, as well as the Narok County Government and local communities who have long safeguarded the integrity of this critical wildlife corridor.
“This recognition belongs to every conservationist, tour guide, and community member who has worked tirelessly to preserve this treasure,” the statement continued.
The Ministry of Tourism emphasized that this achievement is not just a Kenyan victory, but a global one—showcasing the potential of conservation-led tourism in addressing ecological and economic challenges.
As the world seeks authentic and sustainable travel experiences, the Maasai Mara now stands as a shining example of what Kenya has to offer.
Karibu Kenya. Karibu Maasai Mara.
