Langata Business Fraternity Backs Babu Owino for Nairobi Governor in 2027

The business fraternrity in Langata Sub-County will rally behind Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino for the Nairobi Governor position.
Led by businessman Johnson Oduk who is also the Secretary General of Nairobi County Luo Elders Association, the group has identified Babu Owino as the right man to unseat Governor Johnson Sakaja in the 2027 election.
The group has backed sentiments by Langata MP Felix Jalang’o that Babu will easily back the seat if backed by ODM.
” After analysing the changing political trends in the country and the feeling of our people, every indicator leads to Babu Owino above any other candidate,” Oduk said in a statement issued on behalf of the group.
He noted that the exit of Tim Wanyonyi from Nairobi politics leaves ODM with no option but rally behind Babu, whom they said is a darling of the youths and presents the future of the country’s leadership.
” You can’t ignore the fact that he is loved by the youths and celebrated across the political divide because of his resilience in fighting for Justice,” he added.
He advised that it will be wrong for ODM not to seize the moment by having a candidate for the position after failing to field one in 2022.
” In 2022 we made a mistake because we should have had Tim Wanyonyi who has now left, for now we have Babu who has been a loyal member and great defender of what the party stands for,” he explained.
This comes a day after Jalang’o said Babu has all that is needed to clinch the seat and that there is no other formidable candidate to topple him.
Speaking during an interview with radio presenter Alex Mwakideu, Jalang’o said Babu had a clear path to City Hall under ODM.
He reiterated that even if he is denied the ODM ticket, the Embakasi East MP would still be a formidable candidate in the polls.
“If Babu Owino is given the ODM ticket, he will be the Nairobi governor. If he is not given, he will cause a lot of trouble for the other candidates,” he said.
“I am preparing you for Babu Owino’s leadership as Nairobi governor. I know he is coming to serve one term, and after that, he will hand it over to me as he moves higher,” Jalang’o added.
Jalang’o also weighed in on intra-party competition, warning that multiple strong ODM candidates could split the vote and hand the seat to a Mount Kenya contender.
“Politics, at a certain level, is tribal. If Edwin Sifuna, Tim Wanyonyi and Babu Owino all run, they will cancel each other out,” he said. “They need to sit down and agree on one candidate, or else the votes will be divided and a Mount Kenya candidate will win.”
