Manyani, Kenya – Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Director General Prof. Erustus Kanga has officially launched two vital ranger training programs for 2025 at the KWS Law Enforcement Academy in Manyani, calling them a “crucible of transformation” for the country’s next generation of conservation leaders.

Addressing the officers, Prof. Kanga delivered a powerful reminder: “Kenya’s wildlife is not just a source of pride—it is the lifeblood of our ecological security and cultural identity.” He cited growing threats from human encroachment, habitat destruction, climate change, and global poaching networks.

The training programs launched include:

  • NCO Promotion Course 1/2025 (July 17 – Oct 10) with 176 participants
  • Junior Officers’ Course 1/2025 (July 4 – Dec 19) with 103 participants

These courses focus on enhancing leadership, command, legal enforcement, conservation under climate stress, and field endurance, transforming classroom knowledge into decisive frontline action.

“Promotion is not a privilege—it is a higher calling,” Prof. Kanga told the officers. “Those who complete these programs won’t just wear new chevrons. They’ll carry the trust of the Service and the responsibility to lead with discipline, courage, and integrity.”

As Kenya battles to protect its rich biodiversity, KWS is equipping its rangers not just with tactical skills, but with the ethical foundation needed to lead the conservation war in an increasingly complex world.

Prof. Kanga’s message was clear: Leadership in conservation is earned, not given.
