Gender Principal Secretary Ann Wangombe has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to grassroots economic transformation through agriculture, as she led the handover of modern milk coolers to dairy cooperatives in Mukurweini, Nyeri County.
Joined by former Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, PS Wangombe presided over the official delivery of the milk coolers to Mukurweini and New Ruguru Dairy Cooperatives. The event marked a key milestone under the Livestock Value Chain Support Project, which is rolling out 12 milk coolers across Nyeri County.
The milk coolers are expected to reduce post-harvest losses, enhance milk quality, and increase income for smallholder dairy farmers. PS Wangombe commended the cooperatives for their preparedness, noting that their members have already undergone capacity-building training on equipment use, hygiene, and storage protocols.
“Our goal is to equip farmers with the tools and knowledge they need to thrive,” she said. “By strengthening value chains and promoting inclusive participation, we are building more resilient and self-reliant communities.”
She particularly emphasized the role of women and youth in agricultural development, stating that targeted support for these groups is essential to unlocking rural prosperity and achieving long-term food security.
PS Wangombe’s leadership continues to bridge gender empowerment with economic opportunity, delivering practical interventions that resonate with local needs. The project aligns with the government’s broader agenda of value addition, rural development, and inclusive growth across Kenya’s agricultural landscape.
