Nairobi, Kenya — In a major win for Nairobi’s Eastlands residents, Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) Director General Eng. Silas Kinoti has announced the completion of tarmacking works on 18th Street in Madiwa, a critical connector between Kiambiu informal settlement and Eastleigh Section 3.

The transformation of the once-dilapidated road is part of KURA’s broader plan to upgrade urban infrastructure in underserved areas. Eng. Kinoti said the road will significantly ease movement, enhance safety, and stimulate local business in one of the city’s most densely populated neighborhoods.

“This is more than just a road; it’s a lifeline for thousands of families and traders,” said Kinoti during a site visit.

Last month, Ahero Road in Pumwani was also resurfaced under the same urban improvement programme. Kinoti confirmed that works have already been tendered for Lamu and Digo Roads in Pumwani, along with Muinami Road in California Ward, and construction will commence once contractors are awarded.

“These projects aren’t just about roads — they’re about opening up communities, cutting travel time, and unlocking economic opportunity,” he added.

Residents welcomed the development, citing better access to schools, hospitals, and markets.

Kinoti emphasized KURA’s commitment to inclusive, high-standard infrastructure, especially in informal settlements that have long been left behind in the city’s development agenda.

With these strides, Eng. Kinoti has positioned KURA as a key driver of urban transformation, one road at a time.
