Kakamega County Assembly Tightens Financial Controls Under Speaker Namatsi’s

The Kakamega County Assembly has taken a bold step toward strengthening transparency and accountability by implementing tighter financial oversight under the leadership of Speaker Rt. Hon. James Namatsi.
In a high-level consultative session with the Assembly’s Audit Committee, Clerk Dr. Donald Manyala confirmed that new public finance management measures have been rolled out to entrench good governance. These include strategic planning, ISO certification, and the recruitment of a head for the Internal Audit Unit.
Dr. Manyala also revealed ongoing investments in staff capacity building to enhance service delivery and compliance with financial regulations.
Audit Committee Chair CPA Stephen Sakwa praised the Assembly Service Board and management for their steady strides in institutional transformation. He noted that Speaker Namatsi’s leadership has been pivotal in steering the Assembly toward a culture of ethical governance and professional accountability.
“This is the kind of integrity-driven leadership Kenyans expect from public institutions. Kakamega is setting a commendable pace,” said CPA Sakwa.
The Audit Committee reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Assembly to ensure that public resources are used efficiently and transparently, aligning with the Constitution and Public Finance Management Act.
