Otiende Amollo Calls for Better Welfare of Judges in Historic Madiany Law Courts Visit

Rarieda MP Hon. Dr. Otiende Amollo, SC, called for greater focus on the well-being of Kenya’s judicial officers, during a symbolic visit to Madiany Law Courts in Siaya County.
Dr. Amollo was received by Resident Magistrate Hon. Joy Ayieta and her staff, where he hailed the court’s performance and legacy as the first to be built under the CDF-Judiciary partnership model — a model that has since been adopted countrywide to improve access to justice.
He emphasized that the judiciary cannot deliver justice effectively if the welfare of its officers is neglected. “The people who dispense justice deserve modern facilities, better working conditions, and institutional respect,” he said.
In his remarks, the Senior Counsel also challenged Parliament and national leadership to support judiciary-led reforms and infrastructure investments. “The independence of the judiciary must not just be protected — it must be nurtured,” he added.
The visit underscored the critical importance of collaboration between the Legislature and Judiciary in fostering institutional growth and trust.
As Kenyans reflect on the value of justice in a democratic society, Dr. Amollo’s visit reignites debate on whether enough is being done to uplift the guardians of the law. The event ended with a standing ovation for the Madiany court staff, praised for their unwavering service to justice in Rarieda and beyond.
