Phelister Abdalla, Coordinator of the Kenya Sex Workers Alliance (KESWA), has condemned the killing as a “barbaric and heartbreaking act”, calling it a grim reminder of the violence, stigma, and discrimination that sex workers endure daily.

“This is not just a tragedy for one family — it’s a wake-up call for Kenya,” Abdalla declared. “Sex workers are human beings. They deserve to live, work, and exist in dignity and safety.”

Abdalla urged law enforcement to launch a swift and transparent investigation into the murder, warning that failure to bring the perpetrators to justice would send a dangerous message of impunity.

“This cannot be swept under the rug,” she said. “We demand action, not empty promises.”

The Kenya Sex Workers Alliance has pledged support to the victim’s family and vowed to intensify advocacy for stronger protections and recognition of sex workers’ rights. Abdalla further called on the government to implement comprehensive safety policies to address the systemic neglect and violence faced by sex workers nationwide.

As news of the murder spreads, Kenyans have taken to social media to express outrage, demanding justice and an end to what many are calling a silent epidemic of violence against marginalized communities.

“Every life matters,” Abdalla said. “This nation must stand for justice — or risk losing its soul.”
