Reverend Frederick Ngugi, board member of the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), has strongly endorsed Kenya’s new National Policy on the Prevention, Management, and Control of Alcohol, Drugs, and Substance Abuse — the first of its kind in the country.

Speaking during the policy’s official launch, Reverend Ngugi described the initiative as a lifeline for millions of young Kenyans and families ravaged by drug addiction. “Substance abuse has stolen futures, broken homes, and fueled crime in our communities. This policy breathes new hope into our fight for a healthier, safer Kenya,” he stated.

The groundbreaking policy outlines a multi-agency approach to address the crisis, empowering law enforcement to intensify crackdowns on drug traffickers and illegal brewers while boosting border surveillance and community outreach. It also aims to expand access to treatment and rehabilitation services for those struggling with addiction.

Ngugi praised NACADA’s leadership under Chairman Rev. Dr. Stephen Mairori and CEO Dr. Anthony Omerikwa, applauding their collaboration with faith leaders, youth groups, civil society, and security agencies. He emphasized that successful implementation will require unity across all sectors of society.

“The time to act is now. This policy is not just a government document — it’s a moral call to protect our children, restore families, and rebuild our nation,” Reverend Ngugi added.

As Kenya confronts the growing threat of drug abuse, the new national framework is expected to guide decisive action, save lives, and reshape the country’s future.
