In a bold move signaling its growing influence in Western Kenya, the Democratic National Alliance (DNA) has announced Hon. Joab Manyasi as its flagbearer in the upcoming Malava Constituency by-election.

The unveiling ceremony, held at the party’s headquarters in Karen, marked a significant strategic shift by the party to capitalize on local leadership with deep community ties.

Hon. Manyasi, a seasoned civil engineer and grassroots mobilizer, brings a wealth of experience to the race. A familiar name in Malava’s political circles, he previously contested the parliamentary seat under Ford Kenya in 2017 and ODM in 2022. His transition to DNA reflects not only a political realignment but a shared vision for community-first governance.

“Hon. Manyasi is more than a candidate he’s a catalyst for transformation,” said DNA Party Leader Hon. Godfrey Kanoti during the ceremony. “His journey and track record reflect the DNA philosophy: leadership born of the people, for the people. We are reimagining representation in places like Malava.”

Manyasi’s candidacy is emblematic of DNA’s wider ambitions: to expand its presence in historically underrepresented regions while promoting leadership anchored in service, integrity, and accessibility. His campaign promises to center on youth empowerment, agricultural revitalization, and inclusive governance.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Manyasi pledged to be a servant-leader with his ears close to the ground. “I’m not here as a political project. I’m here as a son of Malava,” he said. “This isn’t just a race for Parliament. It’s a fight to restore trust, to revive hope, and to ensure that the aspirations of our farmers, women, and youth are no longer ignored.”

His address resonated with a growing sentiment among voters fatigued by broken promises and detached leadership. Manyasi emphasized that his campaign would focus on “voice, dignity, and development,” laying out plans for townhall engagements, door-to-door conversations, and a robust civic education drive.

The by-election was necessitated by a vacancy declared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), with the polling date expected to be announced in the coming weeks. Observers note that DNA’s early positioning and clear message could sway significant support in a constituency long dominated by mainstream parties.

With the symbolic presentation of the party’s flag to Hon. Manyasi, DNA officially launched its campaign in Malava aiming not just to win a seat, but to redefine what political leadership means at the constituency level.

As the political landscape in Western Kenya continues to shift, DNA’s message of homegrown leadership could signal a new chapter in the region’s electoral dynamics.
