The Kakamega County Assembly has officially welcomed Hon. Lucy Kendi Khayadi and Hon. Linet Wanga Imbayi as newly nominated Members of County Assembly (MCAs) following their gazettement by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The duo, nominated by the ODM Party, fills vacancies left by the late Hon. Phaustine Werimo and Hon. Godliver Omondi, who both served under the gender top-up category before their untimely demise after short illnesses.

Earlier today, the two incoming MCAs paid a courtesy call to Speaker Rt. Hon. James Namatsi, who warmly welcomed them and reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to a smooth transition. The Speaker noted that their arrival strengthens representation and ensures the Assembly continues to reflect the county’s diversity.

They were also briefed on an upcoming orientation programme designed to equip them for their legislative duties.

Present during the session were Clerk Dr. Donald K. Manyala, Deputy Clerk CPA Nelphat Mbati, several sitting MCAs, and senior staff from the Legislative and Leadership departments.

A swearing-in rehearsal was conducted in the Assembly Chambers by the Deputy Clerk and technical staff, in preparation for their formal inauguration scheduled for Tuesday.

The Kakamega County Assembly currently consists of 90 members—60 elected and 30 nominated—to ensure inclusion of gender, minority, and persons living with disabilities, in line with constitutional provisions.
