Kilifi Deputy Governor Flora Mbetsa Chibule has reaffirmed the county’s commitment to sustainable energy and environmental conservation as the county prepares to host the 6th Edition of the National Clean Cooking Week.
Speaking during a high-level meeting with the National Clean Cooking Week Committee led by Dr. Eng. Isaac Kiva, Secretary for Renewable Energy at the Ministry of Energy, the Deputy Governor said Kilifi is proud to champion clean cooking solutions that reduce harmful emissions and promote better health outcomes.
“We are committed to providing a cleaner and healthier environment for our communities, especially women and children who are most affected by unsafe cooking methods,” she said.
Dr. Kiva applauded Kilifi’s leadership and support, noting that the county was a strategic choice due to its proactive approach to clean energy and willingness to collaborate with stakeholders.
The Clean Cooking Week, scheduled for later this year, aims to raise awareness on the adoption of clean cooking technologies, influence policy direction, and encourage investment in the sector. It will bring together national and county leaders, development partners, private sector players, and the public to promote the use of improved cookstoves and alternative fuels.
Also present during the planning session were officials from the Ministry of Health, National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), and representatives from clean energy organizations.
Kilifi is expected to host several exhibitions, forums, and community engagement activities during the event, highlighting its growing role in Kenya’s clean energy transition.
