Fashion Designer Immaculate Odhuno Released on Bond in KSh 7M Fake Gold Case

Fashion designer Immaculate Adhiambo Odhuno and her co-accused, Benson Odero Gembe, have been released on bond after spending the weekend in police custody over a multi-million shilling fake gold transaction case.
Presiding magistrate Hon. Dolphina Alego ordered that the two be released on a KSh 1 million bond or a cash bail of KSh 200,000 with two contact persons.
The duo was arraigned before the Milimani Law Courts last week on charges of conspiracy to defraud and obtaining money by false pretences, contrary to sections 317 and 313 of the Penal Code.
According to court documents, between August 24 and October 19, 2024, the accused, together with others not before the court, allegedly conspired to defraud Sonali Purbia Malviya and Mohammed Adel of USD 54,300 (approximately KSh 7 million).
The prosecution claims the suspects falsely posed as dealers capable of supplying 35 to 53 kilograms of gold bars, while knowing the claims were untrue. The matter was reported to the police, leading to their arrest on August 13, 2025, and subsequent arraignment a day later.
Five witnesses have been listed to testify against the accused. The case will be mentioned on September 15, 2025, for pretrial directions.
