Speaking at the Women in Leadership Forum hosted by the Oslo Center in Mombasa, Senator Maina underscored the importance of preparing young women to step into leadership roles and thrive despite the challenges that come with political life.

The forum brought together participants from 11 political parties, reflecting Kenya’s diverse political landscape. Among the leaders present were Hon. Rose of UDA Nakuru, Hon. Susan of ODM Vihiga, Hon. Asha of ODM, Gabrielle Lorere of UPIA, and Brenda of ODM. The mentorship platform provided a rare opportunity for youthful aspirants to engage directly with seasoned women leaders.

Senator Maina noted that while women have made strides in leadership, barriers such as cultural biases, limited financial resources, and lack of institutional support continue to hinder their full participation. “The future of leadership in Kenya must be inclusive. Women must be mentored, supported, and empowered to stand tall in politics and governance,” she said.

She urged political parties to create deliberate opportunities for women, particularly the youth, to showcase and grow their leadership potential.

Participants also shared personal experiences, highlighting the difficulties of balancing ambition with societal expectations. The mentorship sessions provided both encouragement and practical strategies to overcome these hurdles.

The Mombasa forum was hailed as a vital step in building a strong pipeline of female leaders, proving that leadership transcends party lines and flourishes through solidarity, mentorship, and shared vision.
