Leah Sankaire Strengthens KEWOPA’s Push for Gender Equality and Women’s Leadership

Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) Chair, Hon. Leah Sankaire, has reaffirmed her leadership in advancing gender equality, inclusive governance, and women’s political participation. Speaking after a high-level strategy meeting with KEWOPA’s Executive Committee, Sankaire underscored the association’s renewed commitment to championing the two-thirds gender principle and amplifying women’s voices in national leadership.
The meeting brought together women legislators to deliberate on key priorities shaping KEWOPA’s agenda, including legislative reforms, policy advocacy, and forging strategic partnerships. Sankaire noted that the resolutions adopted will serve as actionable pathways to secure greater space for women in Kenya’s democratic journey.
“Our role as women leaders is to shape laws, policies, and programs that reflect the realities of Kenyan women. KEWOPA remains steadfast in breaking barriers, amplifying voices, and opening opportunities for the next generation of women leaders,” Sankaire affirmed.
Under her stewardship, KEWOPA has been at the forefront of pushing for the implementation of the constitutional two-thirds gender rule. Beyond legislation, Sankaire has initiated mentorship programs for young women in politics, creating platforms for growth and leadership exchange.
The association has also played a pivotal role in shaping parliamentary debates on gender-based violence, maternal health, and social protection, while strengthening collaboration with civil society and development partners.
Sankaire called on stakeholders across government, private sector, and civil society to walk alongside KEWOPA in advancing inclusive governance. Her vision is clear—an empowered society where women’s leadership is the norm, not the exception.
