Eldohub Empowers Trainers to Harness AI for Safer, Smarter Classrooms

By John Kariuki
Eldohub is reshaping the future of education through its ongoing Training of Trainers workshop under the TechLabs Mashinani program, aimed at equipping educators with the skills to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) in classrooms responsibly.
Speaking during the opening, Eldohub Executive Director Magdaline Chepkemoi noted that Uasin Gishu is taking the lead in educational transformation. “When we empower trainers through AI, we unlock opportunities for every learner,” she said, highlighting the workshop’s mission to position educators as drivers of innovation.
The program goes beyond introducing new technology. It prepares trainers to leverage AI to enhance teaching, personalize learning, and equip students for an increasingly digital world.
In a key afternoon session, Katumbi Mailu from the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner stressed the importance of safeguarding learners’ data as AI enters schools. She underscored that children’s privacy, consent, and secure handling of records must remain non-negotiable. “Responsible AI starts with protecting learners,” she said, reminding participants that technology must serve people, not the other way around.
The workshop’s takeaway was clear: innovation without accountability undermines trust. As schools adopt AI, balancing progress with privacy will be critical.
Eldohub’s initiative has already sparked debate on whether institutions are ready to protect student data in this digital age. By focusing on both innovation and responsibility, the program sets the stage for safer, smarter classrooms across Kenya and beyond.
