Machakos County Woman Representative Hon. Joyce Kamene Kasimbi has disbursed economic empowerment items worth KSh25 million to more than 120 women and youth groups through the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF).
The event, held at ACK All Souls Church in Machakos town, saw beneficiaries receive water tanks, sewing machines, tents and chairs, laptops, sufurias, car wash machines, incubators, umbrellas for traders, beehives, chafing dishes, and a cheque to equip needy schools.
Kamene said the initiative seeks to uplift livelihoods by creating opportunities for self-reliance and boosting small businesses. “NGAAF is empowering and uplifting our people, and so the fund should be enhanced and remain at the office of the Women Representative,” she said.
She underscored NGAAF’s role in education and economic empowerment, noting that investing in women and youth equips them with the skills and resources needed for employment and entrepreneurship.
The ceremony was attended by Makueni Woman Representative Hon. Rose Museo, who lauded Kamene’s program as a model for true empowerment. Kitui Woman Representative Hon. Irene Kasalu also praised Kamene’s scorecard, saying she would replicate some of the projects in her county.
Residents hailed the initiative as timely, citing its direct impact on livelihoods and access to opportunities.
