The Kiambu County Assembly has achieved a historic milestone after four of its staff secured fully funded scholarships to pursue Master’s programmes in leading universities in China. The awards were granted through the Government of the People’s Republic of China’s Ministry of Finance and Commerce (MOFCO).

Led by Speaker Wakili Charles Thiongo OGW, the Assembly is now the only county assembly in Kenya to benefit from the programme — and notably produced the highest number of beneficiaries nationwide.

Speaking during the announcement, Speaker Thiongo hailed the achievement as a reflection of the Assembly’s investment in human capacity and staff growth. He said the international exposure would equip beneficiaries with advanced knowledge and skills that will translate into improved institutional performance.

“Our vision of making Kiambu County Assembly a premier model in the country is firmly anchored on transformative and impactful leadership geared towards offering optimal services to our people,” Thiongo said.

He added that the scholarships would promote knowledge transfer, innovation, and stronger service delivery to the people of Kiambu once the staff return.

The development underscores Speaker Thiongo’s emphasis on building a motivated and empowered workforce while also strengthening international collaboration. It positions Kiambu County Assembly as a trailblazer in linking governance with global learning opportunities.
