The project, currently under implementation, is expected to benefit more than 3,000 households in Kimakia, Karangi, and Mbugiti sub-locations by supplying reliable water for both domestic use and farming.

Muriu said access to clean and sufficient water remains a basic right, adding that no family in Gatanga should struggle with the burden of water shortages. “We are investing in water projects because we believe no family in Gatanga should struggle for this basic need. Our people deserve sustainable water supply for homes, schools, and farms,” he stated.

The irrigation project is being executed in collaboration with engineers and contractors and is set for completion by October next year. Once operational, it will ensure year-round irrigation, enhance agricultural productivity, and improve household welfare.

According to the MP, the initiative forms part of his broader vision to deliver transformative development in Gatanga, with water security as a cornerstone of prosperity. “We are building a Gatanga where water is not a struggle but a guarantee—for our farmers, our children, and future generations,” he added.

The Mbugiti Irrigation Project underscores Muriu’s focus on practical solutions that directly uplift livelihoods, positioning Gatanga on a stronger path toward food security, health, and sustainable development.
