Eng. Silas Kinoti Hails Greenpark Underpass as Landmark in Nairobi’s Urban Renewal

By John Kariuki
Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) Director General Eng. Silas Kinoti has praised the Greenpark Underpass project in Nairobi, describing it as a benchmark for people-centered urban transformation.
Speaking during an inspection tour, Eng. Kinoti commended the government and its partners for the project’s progress, which now stands at over 90 percent completion. The underpass, implemented by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) in partnership with China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), is aimed at easing congestion and improving commuter flow along one of the city’s busiest corridors.
Kinoti noted that the project reflects a broader vision for safe, inclusive, and efficient transport systems. “Our goal as road agencies is to create modern spaces that serve every Nairobi resident with dignity and reliability. The Greenpark Underpass embodies this vision,” he said.
The facility will feature modern walkways, retail outlets, lifts, escalators, and restrooms, secured with 24-hour surveillance. Kinoti highlighted the inclusivity aspects, stressing that accessibility for persons with disabilities, senior citizens, and parents with young children is central to the design.
He further observed that integrating retail spaces will open fresh opportunities for micro and small enterprises, linking mobility with economic empowerment.
With its completion imminent, the Greenpark Underpass is expected to become a model of integrated urban infrastructure, reinforcing the government’s long-term vision of safer, smarter, and more connected cities.
