The unveiling, held at Sopa Lodges during a full lunar eclipse, marked a first-of-its-kind diversification of Kenya’s tourism offerings beyond its traditional bush and beach attractions.

CS Miano credited President William Ruto’s visionary leadership, saying the initiative aligns with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) by creating fresh opportunities that empower communities and spotlight Kenya’s hidden treasures.

Located near the equator and free from light pollution, Samburu offers one of the world’s most pristine stargazing sites. Miano described the county’s night sky as “a masterpiece waiting to be explored,” adding that astro tourism will not only boost local economies but also inspire global travelers.

“For centuries, our ancestors looked to the stars for wisdom, wonder, and connection. Today, we are transforming that legacy into a new frontier of tourism,” she said.

Kenya aims to attract five million visitors by 2027, with astro tourism expected to play a central role. “The stars above us are not just a resource,” Miano emphasized. “They are a story, a legacy, and a promise of a brighter future.”

She concluded with an invitation: “Come to Samburu, touch the sky, and let the stars tell you stories. Kenya is ready to lead the world into a new era of tourism—one written in the skies.”
