UK-Based Civil Society Demands LSK President Faith Odhiambo’s Resignation Over Ruto Taskforce Role

Pressure is mounting on the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President, Faith Odhiambo, to resign and apologise for agreeing to serve in what critics describe as an illegally constituted taskforce formed by President William Ruto.
The UK-based civil society group Justice and Equity has strongly condemned Odhiambo’s decision, saying she has betrayed Kenyans, especially victims of the Gen Z protests, by legitimising a process that lacked constitutional backing.
Justice and Equity President Sebastian Onyango said Odhiambo’s acceptance to serve in the Prof. Makau Mutua-led taskforce, which was created to assess compensation for victims of the protests, was a violation of public trust since the taskforce was formed without public participation.
“We call on the LSK President, Faith Odhiambo, to resign and apologise to Kenyans for agreeing to take part in this illegal and unconstitutional entity,” said Onyango.
The group also welcomed Monday’s High Court ruling that temporarily stopped the Makau Mutua panel from conducting any business until a petition filed by two human rights organisations is heard and determined.
Separately, the civil society criticised the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) over its move to withdraw high-profile corruption cases, including that of former Migori Governor Okoth Obado, who is accused of embezzling public funds.
“We call on the Anti-Corruption Court to reject any attempts by the DPP to withdraw the criminal case against Obado and his accomplices,” Onyango added.
The organisation further urged the DCI and the EACC to investigate and arrest corrupt officials in the newly formed Social Health Authority (SHA), KEMSA, and other state agencies.
The strong statement comes barely a month after President Ruto warned both the Senate and the National Assembly against shielding corrupt leaders from accountability.
