A flamboyant Nairobi barber was on Monday arraigned in court and charged with obtaining KSh 450,000 by false pretence.
John Jebose appeared before Chief Magistrate Rhodah Yator, where he denied the charges. He was released on a cash bail of KSh 100,000 or an alternative bond of KSh 200,000.
According to the charge sheet, Jebose is accused of defrauding Josephine Dama Karisa between 18th August and 1st September 2025 in Nairobi County. The prosecution alleges that he obtained the money while falsely claiming he could provide professional barber services at her shop, a fact he allegedly knew to be untrue.
The state did not oppose bail, while Jebose’s lawyer pleaded for leniency, arguing that his client is a young Kenyan of humble means with a fixed place of abode.
The court set September 24, 2025 as the date for mention and pre-trial directions.
If found guilty, Jebose faces penalties under the Penal Code for obtaining money by false pretence, a crime that carries heavy fines or imprisonment.
