Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The Director General of the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), Dr. Mamo B. Mamo, EBS, has joined continental leaders and policymakers at the opening of the 2nd Africa Climate Summit (ACS-2) in Addis Ababa.

The summit, themed “From Nairobi to Addis”, builds on the inaugural 2023 Nairobi edition that placed Africa firmly on the global climate agenda. Delegates are expected to advance African-led solutions to pressing challenges such as droughts, floods, food insecurity, and energy transitions while pushing for equitable climate financing and investment in green growth.

Dr. Mamo’s participation underscores Kenya’s continued leadership in environmental governance. Under his tenure, NEMA has promoted policies on resilience, climate-smart agriculture, renewable energy, and nature-based solutions aligned with Kenya’s national climate commitments.

Speaking at the forum, Dr. Mamo stressed the need for Africa to speak with one voice in demanding climate justice and adequate global support. “Our future depends on scaling up renewable energy, strengthening resilience, and safeguarding ecosystems through sustainable practices,” he said.

The Addis summit is expected to close with concrete commitments shaping Africa’s common climate strategy ahead of global climate negotiations later this year.

For African nations, ACS-2 is not just a policy dialogue but a chance to reassert the continent’s role as a key player in driving a sustainable and equitable future.
