Captain (Rtd) Kung’u Muigai has alleged that the death of his lawyer, Mbobu Kyalo, is linked to a major bribery scandal involving senior members of the judiciary.

Speaking on Thursday, the retired captain claimed Kyalo was both his legal representative and a key witness in his case against the judiciary, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), and the Settlement Housing Authority. He alleged that the lawyer was in possession of four sworn affidavits and two audio recordings said to implicate judges in receiving bribes.

“This lawyer carried very crucial evidence. His elimination is linked to the fight for justice. They think killing him will silence me, but it will not,” Muigai said.

He confirmed reporting the matter to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), calling for urgent recovery of the missing evidence and a thorough probe into the killing.

Muigai recently filed a petition seeking the removal of Chief Justice Martha Koome, four Supreme Court judges, and six Court of Appeal judges. He alleges that a bribe of KSh825 million was paid to deprive his family—linked to a former president—of its KSh7 billion coffee estate through a flawed auction.

“The case will not end here. Killing my lawyer will not kill the truth. I will not be silenced,” he vowed.
