Maingi Launches Road and Electrification Drive to Unlock Mwea’s Economy

By John Kariuki
Mwea MP Hon. Mary Maingi on Monday commissioned a series of infrastructure works aimed at improving access and stimulating economic activity across the constituency.
Maingi opened the grading and murraming of the Soweto–Mbui Njeru–Rurumi road in Thiba Ward, a move she said will ease movement of people and farm produce and reduce transport costs for traders and farmers. She also inspected ongoing electricity connectivity works at Mbambaini in Tebere Ward, which are expected to extend power to hundreds of households and small businesses.
Later, the MP toured Marurumo in Wamumu Ward to assess preparations for tarmacking the PI Murinduko–Kiumbu–Kiandegwa road — a project Maingi described as “a game changer for trade and travel in Mwea.”
“These projects are about opening up Mwea — linking farms to markets, creating jobs and improving livelihoods,” she said, pledging continued oversight to ensure value for money and timely completion.
Residents and local traders welcomed the interventions, saying improved roads and reliable electricity will lower operational costs and expand market access. Maingi called on contractors to adhere to quality standards and urged county and national partners to support complementary investments such as water supply and market infrastructure.
The works form part of the MP’s broader agenda to deliver practical development interventions that directly impact daily life in Mwea.
