Kindiki Pledges Sh11B for Women Empowerment Projects in Kajiado

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced multi-billion-shilling investments in Kajiado County to boost women’s economic empowerment and improve livelihoods.
Speaking at a Women Economic Empowerment Forum in Mashuuru, Kajiado East, Kindiki said the Kenya Kwanza administration is focusing on modern markets, affordable housing, electricity connectivity and road infrastructure to support small-scale enterprises.
He revealed that 12 fresh produce markets are under construction in the county at a cost of Sh1.4 billion, while affordable housing projects worth Sh10 billion are underway, creating over 4,000 jobs for youth in construction trades.
In addition, Sh705 million is being invested in last-mile electricity connections targeting 3,500 households and rural institutions, with plans to expand support for agribusiness, tailoring and food processing ventures.
“We are deliberately investing in infrastructure and financial empowerment to create a supportive environment for women entrepreneurs to grow and prosper,” Kindiki said.
Kajiado Woman Representative Leah Sankaire urged the government to fast-track repairs on the 63-kilometre Isara–Mashuuru–Imaroro road, citing heavy losses incurred by women transporting milk and produce. In response, Kindiki assured residents the project is included in government plans, adding that it will ease congestion on the Mombasa–Nairobi highway and enhance regional trade.
The DP also presided over a resource mobilization drive for 70 women groups, urging them to reinvest funds collectively for sustainable growth.
The event was attended by Governor Joseph Ole Lenku, local leaders, MPs and grassroots women groups.
