The protests came after a woman died over failed surgery and what the family termed as negligence on the part of medical officers at the facility.

The woman Lucy Wambui Kamau succumbed to death after the surgery conducted by the hospital’s doctors went wrong.

Reports indicate that the woman died as a result of negligence and medical malpractices during the surgery process.

Following the public outcry and the protests led by Sonko, the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council issued a closure notice dated 31/10/2020.

The council noted that the premise where the health facility is housed was found to have gross violations which are dangerous to public health.

Some of the violations include using the premise as a health institution without any licence which amounts to violation of section 15(1) of the Medical Practitioners and Act, employing persons who are not registered as medical practitioners and operating a health facility below the required standards as stipulated in the medical institution rules.

Muthangari OCS led police officers in enforcing the closure notice.

Also present were activists and lawyers ready to take up the case.

Sonko said that he facility is beings run by rogue people who do not have requisite credentials.

” I have done my search and there is this woman by the name Lillian who is the CEO and is not even a Doctor and another young man called George who are conducting surgeries yet they are not qualified,” he said.

Sonko said the facility has a history of negligence, with a number of deaths registered under unclear circumstances.

Before this happened, the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council had written to the Director of Omnicare Medical seeking clarification on the matter.

The council had made several demands which have to be met and submitted before it to assist in Investigations

” To assist the council in its investigation regarding this matter, you are hereby directed to submit the following to the council before 1st November 2024,” the letter reads

The demands include; a statement on the treatment and management of the deceased, statements and copies of professional certificates and licenses from all medical personnel who attended to the deceased, certified and paginated of the patient’s file and and other document or information that will assist the council in investigations.

The medical facility in question has been at the centre of controversy for a while with a section of medical practitioners questioning how it was cleared to operate.

Sonko took to his X account to thank the Kenya medical practitioners and dentists Council, the OCS Muthangari, and members of the public for standing with the family of the deceased.
