Kenya has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing drought resilience through a strategic partnership with the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), focusing on sustainable solutions for communities in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs).
Principal Secretary for ASALs and Regional Development, Hon. Kello Harsama, alongside Cabinet Secretary Beatrice Askul Moe, held high-level discussions with H.E. Mohamed Ware, IGAD Deputy Executive Secretary, to evaluate Kenya’s implementation of the IGAD Drought Disaster Resilience and Sustainability Initiative (IDDRSI).
The talks emphasized strengthening drought preparedness, response, and long-term sustainability frameworks, aligning with IGAD’s regional strategy to mitigate climate change impacts and protect vulnerable communities.
As a key IGAD member, Kenya remains committed to regional collaboration and policy-driven interventions aimed at securing food security, water access, and sustainable livelihoods in ASAL regions.
Harsama reiterated the government’s unwavering dedication to partnering with IGAD and other regional stakeholders, ensuring a more resilient future for drought-prone communities across East Africa.
