Nairobi, Kenya – Principal Secretary for Livestock Development, Jonathan Mueke, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to launching the Kenya Leather Industrial Park (KLIP) by the end of this month, a move set to transform the leather industry through value addition, exports, and job creation.

In a meeting with the Kenya Leather Development Council (KLDC), PS Mueke emphasized the need for efficient management strategies to ensure the park’s success. KLDC CEO Dr. Isaac Noor has been instrumental in streamlining tannery operations, promoting global competitiveness, and advocating for a Leather Wages Council to improve worker conditions.

Beyond leather, labor discussions gained traction, with stakeholders calling for a Wages Council to regulate private security salaries. Mr. Mutava emphasized its role in ensuring fair pay and economic stability.

As KLIP nears operationalization, Kenya is poised to become a key player in the global leather market, attracting investors, boosting the economy, and creating thousands of jobs.
