National Building Code 2024 Sensitization Kicks Off in Nairobi

By John Kariuki
The National Construction Authority (NCA) has launched stakeholder sensitization forums on the National Building Code 2024, starting in Nairobi on Monday. The forums aim to educate industry players on the new regulations set to modernize Kenya’s construction sector.
NCA Board Chairperson Mercy Okiro led the event, with NCA Executive Director Eng. Maurice Akech emphasizing that the updated Code will improve safety, efficiency, and compliance in building standards. He urged educational institutions to integrate the Code into their training.
The Code, effective March 2024, addresses modern construction needs, materials, and technologies. Patrick Analo, Nairobi County’s Chief Officer for Urban Development, praised the initiative, calling for widespread adoption.
Hon. Olago Aluoch, NG-CDF Chairman, noted the importance of compliance, as 70% of NG-CDF funds go to infrastructure projects in schools and training centers.
The forums will be followed by technical training for professionals, with NCA calling for collaboration between national and county governments to ensure successful implementation.
As Kenya’s construction sector grows, the National Building Code 2024 is expected to enhance quality, safety, and sustainability in development projects.
