Principal Secretary Geoffrey Kaituko praised Mwajita’s appointment as a well-deserved recognition of her dedication and expertise, calling her “one of Kenya’s finest maritime professionals.”

Mwajita was selected after a competitive process involving top maritime experts from across Africa. She brings over 16 years of experience in port, shipping, and trade facilitation, having previously served as Director of Trade Facilitation and Policy Harmonization at ISCOS and Project Manager at KenTrade, where she led Kenya’s Maritime Single Window System Project.

Her extensive contributions include streamlining maritime operations across Africa, leading automation projects, and serving as a speaker and convenor at major international maritime forums.

Mwajita holds two Master’s degrees—in Maritime Affairs from World Maritime University and Information Systems from Lund University—and a Bachelor’s in Computer Science, alongside certifications in Project Management and International Trade Law.

As IMO’s Africa Section Head, she will shape maritime policy, boost trade facilitation, and strengthen Africa’s role in global shipping. A champion for women in maritime, Mwajita’s leadership is expected to drive innovation and growth across Africa’s maritime sector.

Kenya celebrates this global recognition, confident in her ability to elevate Africa’s maritime agenda.
