KTDA Chair Calls for Transparency and Collaboration to Empower Tea Farmers

KTDA National Chairman Geoffrey Chege Kirundi has called for greater transparency and collaboration in Kenya’s tea sector to empower farmers, boost productivity, and enhance the global competitiveness of Kenyan tea.
Speaking at the Tea Industry Performance Report Summit in Mombasa, Mr. Kirundi reaffirmed KTDA’s commitment to putting farmers first in all its operations.
“The tea sector is a lifeline for many households and a symbol of our farmers’ resilience. We must prioritize their interests,” he said.
Agriculture CS Mutahi Kagwe echoed his remarks, emphasizing government support for reforms to strengthen the industry.
With tea as a key economic pillar, stakeholders — including the Tea Board of Kenya, Ministry of Agriculture, county governments, and other partners — pledged to work together to improve governance, market access, and sustainability in the sector.
