Bupa Global Expands into Africa with New Nairobi Office

Bupa Global has officially launched its first office in Africa, establishing a presence in Nairobi, Kenya, to enhance access to world-class healthcare across East Africa. This move follows the approval of its insurance license by Kenya’s Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA), marking a significant milestone in the company’s international expansion strategy.
Kenya has been identified as a key growth market in Bupa Global’s International Private Medical Insurance (IPMI) strategy, with the country’s health insurance sector projected to nearly double from $1.42 billion in 2022 to $2.77 billion. The Nairobi office will employ a local team, led by CEO and Principal Officer Uditha Jayaratne, ensuring tailored services for brokers and customers.
Bupa Global’s Managing Director, Anthony Cabrelli, emphasized the company’s commitment to the region, stating, “Kenya is a crucial market for us and a gateway to the incredible opportunities across Africa. With a local office and digital investments, we’re making world-class healthcare more accessible.”
The Kenyan government’s Vision 2030, which prioritizes quality healthcare, aligns with Bupa Global’s expansion. The recent Social Health Insurance Act, mandating universal health coverage, further underscores the rising demand for comprehensive medical solutions.
Bupa Global has committed £55M over five years to enhance digital healthcare solutions, aiming to provide greater convenience and affordability. The company is also supporting community initiatives such as clean water projects and medical camps in the Masai Mara.
With its Nairobi office, Bupa Global is set to play a vital role in transforming healthcare accessibility in Kenya and beyond, reinforcing its long-term vision for growth in the African market.
