CS Mvurya, MP Caroli Omondi Break Ground on KSh 55M Sports Academy in Suba South

Youth in Suba South are set to benefit from a major investment in talent development, following the launch of a KSh 55 million Talent and Sports Academy at Magunga Primary School.
Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Hon. Salim Mvurya, presided over the groundbreaking ceremony, calling the academy a cornerstone of President Ruto’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA Plan).
“This is more than a sports facility—it’s a pipeline for talent, livelihoods, and national pride,” Mvurya said, urging the contractor to prioritize local labor during construction.
The academy will feature a modern athletics track, football, basketball, and netball pitches, changing rooms, a borehole, water systems, and a social hall. It aims to nurture local talent and connect it to income-generating opportunities both in Kenya and abroad.
Suba South MP Hon. Caroli Omondi, who has championed the project, hailed it as a “dream-builder” for the region’s youth. “This is how we invest in the future—by giving our young people the tools to succeed,” he said.
The event drew a host of dignitaries, including Busia Woman Representative, Homa Bay County officials, and senior leaders from the Kenya Academy of Sports and the Sports, Arts and Social Development Fund.
The academy marks a bold step in placing Suba South on the national sports map—one pitch, one dream at a time.
