Kenya School of Government Director General Prof. Nura Mohamed has called for a thoughtful and inclusive approach to regulating Kenya’s booming gig economy, describing it as both a lifeline for thousands and a driver of innovation.

Speaking during a Policy Consultative Roundtable on regulating the gig economy, Prof. Mohamed emphasized the urgency of crafting fair and responsive frameworks that protect gig workers while sustaining the sector’s flexibility and dynamism.

“There are many challenges facing gig workers in Kenya. As stakeholders, we must chart the way forward to create a balanced gig economy,” he said.

The roundtable, organized by KICTANet and GIZ, also witnessed a key milestone—the formalization of a Strategic Plan between the GIZ Digital Transformation Center (DTC) Kenya and the Kenya School of Government. The partnership aims to build digital capacity within the public sector, ensuring that government institutions are well-equipped to lead in the digital age.
